Botello-Roche-Rodon-Albizu Performance at Christie Auction May 2016

Analyzing prices reached at auction today on Christie’s you can draw the conclusion that it was not a great day for Angel Botello, Arnaldo Roche and Francisco Rodon. Olga Albizu lot 127 sold for $32,500 from a estimate of $30,000 to $40,000 in overall not a bad hammer price.

Francisco Rodon had his first “passed lot” at auction,  not reaching the reserve price for his painting {Ropas Al Sol} with an estimate of $60,000-$80,000.

Arnaldo Roche Rabell had 2 painting available with one not reaching the reserve price and the second painting selling over the estimated price of $25,000.00 with a final hammer price of $31,250 dollars for a 78 in x 78 in. Is a good thing that the painting  overcome and surpass the estimated price assigned by Christie’s but still we need to keep in mind that this work of art was a colossal painting selling for just $31,250 including the buyer’s premium.

Angel Botello had mixed result with the 5 lot available at Christie’s.  ALL lots were sold tonight which was a positive outcome, but is not a cheerful event when a 36 in x 48 sell for less than $24,000 at New York  when Christie’s had appointed a high estimate of  $40,000 dollars, specially for an artist like Angel Botello.Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 11.42.25 PM.png

Another Example of a great buy was the painting “Two Girls” measuring 22 x 18 in.for $8,750 dollars including the buyer’s premium since it was assigned an estimate of $10,000 up to $15,000.

Librado Net “La Casita Azul De Campo”

He was born on August 17, 1895 in Ponce. His education and his life passed between brushes and scores. He lived in America for a few years, where he enriched his musical education and expanded their experiences in painting. During the 1950s until his death almost he served as the first director of the Free School of Music in Ponce. Oil paintings, watercolors, ink drawings and tapestries painting were some of the means used Net to express their talent besides music.

A Gallery To The Past by William Maldonado

Next is a collection of several works by William Maldonado, most being  related to the “Costumbrismo”theme. Maldonado has always been known for his play with light and atmosphere throughout the canvas.

Is impressive how Maldonado always maintains addressing a broad audience with his work. To me his work always tell a precise story which often makes a strong emotional connection with the spectator specially as Maldonado’s main goal is aimed in capturing a particular place at a particular time.

His work has a very precise brush stroke in relationship to the composition, is detailed, accurate and always has a great representation of the scenes and objects that he’s analyzing at that particular moment in time, like a modern photographic oil painting.

Hope you enjoy the next couple of pictures

Bodegones by Domingo Garcia

Here’s a Small Collection of Oil/Markers On Paper Flower Vases by Domingo Garcia. Most of them are 18 x 24 inches from 2010, which is needless to say that in fact it was a great year for the Bodegones subject matter.

Any collector looking for a good organic composition, this is the year to look for. In my opinion the most beautiful bodegones on paper where produce in this year ranging from bold colors to subtle color throughout the composition.

My Blue Frottage Portrait by Arnaldo Roche

There are days in your life you never forget. I always had a goal to have an original work by the artist Roche Rabell which was reached on my 3rd year of Med School but over time step I started to study his career with books and videos based on his creative process of his work and I was amazed as he took ordinary  objects and integrated into his work, even with the human anatomy.

Knowing the different periods of Arnaldo I always had a great curiosity for the blue period especially with the frottage technique but never in my mind I would thought that Roche would do a portrait of me, but thanks to perseverance and a good friend Walter Otero my bucket checklist was completed this past April.

My first impression was an “awwwwww” moment. I couldn’t believe he’s here to paint my portrait,  since is not the same as sharing some one on one time vs on a expo opening night 5 minute talk. The thing that impressed me the most was the fact of how simple and humble he’s persona is, it made me feel at home.

Thanks Arnaldo for making my wish come true!!!
